Which USMLE qbank is best?
UWorld is S tier: the question engine for Step 1. AMBOSS and the USMLE Vault MCQs are A : AMBOSS for biostats, ethics and communication, the Vault MCQs to prepare you for UWorld, page by page. MedSchoolGuru and free question sources are B. USMLE Rx is C.
Read this first We have so many qbanks: UWorld, AMBOSS, MedSchoolGuru, Rx, USMLE Vault, and whatever else is online. More questions don't fix a score. The right questions in the right order do.
So this list ranks each qbank by its job, not by its question count. Every name opens it. Here is how to read the tiers:
S In my stack. Use it fully.
A The best for a specific job.
B Useful in one situation.
C Good in places, but the wrong anchor, or a slot that's already filled.
D A bad trade for your hours.
F Skip it.

Before UWorld A USMLE Vault MCQs
Why: they are the only MCQs that prepare you for your Qbank, which is UWorld. Not a competitor to the gold standard: an augmenter . Most students are scared of UWorld's difficulty. The Vault MCQs are how you walk in ready for it: 2,938 MCQs (as of October 2026) mapped to First Aid page by page, so UWorld isn't the first time you see the concept. "48% cold becomes 70% primed."
Before the Vault, I used to recommend USMLE Rx. It turned out Rx wasn't as good as I wanted it to be, so I created my own resource.

Why: useful in one situation, as extra questions. It isn't part of my method, and it doesn't replace UWorld. Where it shines: their Free 120 . It is a really good, free way to go through the Free 120.

Subject-wise C USMLE Rx
Why: too expensive for not even being your primary Qbank. And for the job Rx does, there's a better alternative: the USMLE Vault MCQs are page by page; Rx is topic by topic and doesn't cover every page of First Aid. usmle-rx.com ↗
The NBME forms, the CMS forms and the Free 120 aren't on this list on purpose. They're assessments, not qbanks. Take every NBME offline: blocks of 20, the real exam's conditions, a score you can trust. For Step 1, only the NBME 31, 32 and 33 trend predicts. For Step 2 CK, the NBME 13, 15 and 16 trend and the Free 120, which is the most predictive. For a full 14-block day before the real exam, there's the Vault assessment .
