Things you can study in the gym

You were going to put something in your ears at the gym anyway. It might as well be worth points.

What can I study for USMLE in the gym?

Anything you can watch or hear passively, and flashcards you can tap through on your phone. Step 1: Mehlman videos first, then our Anki for your phase (the FA Foundation Anki for the system you're on, or the NBME Booster Anki in your NBME phase), then Divine Intervention episodes and Neil Randy's playlists with his PDF. Step 2 CK: AJmonics, the Step 2 CK NBME Booster Anki, Mehlman's clinical playlists, Divine's last-month episodes, Dr. High Yield and Action Potential. All of them are high yield.

Read this firstThis isn't "things you need to study". It's things you can study. The rule for this whole page: everything is a video, a podcast or a flashcard, and all of it is doable on your phone. These are videos you can watch passively while you learn, and every one of them is high yield.

It doesn't replace your desk hours. It turns dead time into review. That's why one of my consistency habits is simply a pair of Bluetooth earphones. Pick your Step.

Step 1 · videoMehlman Medical videos

Short, system by system, free. Play the system you're on, or the one you're weakest in. He teaches how the NBME thinks, which is exactly the part you can absorb by listening.

Step 1 · between setsOur Anki, on your phone

Second, us: simply doing Anki flashcards on your phone, between sets. Ours runs in your phone's browser, no app needed: no download, no setup, no syncing. Which deck depends on the phase you're in:

  • Revising systems (the FA Foundation phase): whenever you're revising a system, do the FA Foundation Anki of that system in the gym. It's every important line of First Aid as a flashcard, 2,499 cards, the page number on every card. You'll be better on UWorld for it. Tap here for the renal deck →
  • In your NBME phase: do the NBME Booster Anki for the forms you've already given. It's forms 20 to 34 and the Free 120 as 1-line cards, sorted by system, and you'll know exactly what these forms ask. Tap here for the NBME Booster →

Want to try them out for free? Both decks are in the Vault: free 3-day trial, no card needed. Works in your phone's browser.
